AccreditationMore options for entering the professionThe College's Accreditation Committee has recently accredited five teacher education programs. Niagara University's College of Education has been granted initial accreditation to offer a program with concentrations in the Primary/Junior and Intermediate/Senior divisions, leading to a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Education. The program has been accredited with the condition that syllabi applicable to Ontario divisions and requirements be developed before the program commences. The accreditation period for this new program is two years or until the graduation of the second class of students enrolled in the program, whichever is longer. It cannot exceed three years. The committee also accredited an addition to the consecutive program at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology's Faculty of Education enabling the offering of a Primary/Junior concentration in addition to the current Intermediate/Senior program. The committee renewed, for five years, the general accreditation of three programs offered by the University of Western Ontario: the consecutive program, the concurrent program leading to a five-year BSc Honours Mathematical Sciences and a Bachelor in Education, and the technological education program. The College's unique responsibility for accreditation of programs at faculties of education gives teachers a significant role in guiding the future of their profession. |
