Janis Leonard is new accreditation manager

Janis Leonard has been named to the post of Manager, Accreditation Unit of the Professional Affairs Department.

Leonard has more than 17 years experience as an educator with a broad knowledge of curriculum and instructional practices. She has worked at a variety of leadership roles supporting program development for at-risk learners and ongoing professional learning for teachers.

An experienced Additional Qualification course developer and instructor, Leonard also has extensive experience in e-learning and a background as a Special Education resource teacher and as a literacy lead teacher with the York Region DSB.

Leonard was seconded from the board to the College as an accreditation program officer from November 2005 to early 2007, when she facilitated reviews of professional-education programs and Additional Qualification courses, provided support to College Council, participated in College work groups and consulted with education partners.

She has returned to the College from York Region DSB, where her work most recently focused on initiatives aimed at continuous school improvement, increasing student literacy and infusing the principles of differential instruction.

“I’m very pleased to be back at the College,” says Leonard. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with our partners to support Ontario’s teachers, both as they begin their careers and participate in ongoing, professional learning.”
