College accredits three new programs

The College’s Accreditation Committee granted accreditation to three programs of teacher education at its August meeting, expanding programs in Ontario offered in French via distance education and for First Nations teachers.

The committee granted initial accreditation with conditions to Brock University’s proposed four-year program of professional education in the primary/junior divisions. The program has a focus on aboriginal education to prepare graduates to teach in First Nations and publicly funded schools, and was developed in partnership with the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council.

The committee granted general accreditation for a period of five years to the French-language primary/junior program of professional education delivered in alternative mode by École des sciences de l’éducation of Laurentian University. The school of education will also offer an additional area of concentration in the junior/intermediate divisions, which has been granted accreditation with conditions.

Initial accreditation with conditions was granted to Tyndale University’s proposed full-time consecutive program of professional education, with areas of concentration in the primary/junior and junior/intermediate divisions. Tyndale is a Toronto-based post-secondary institution that began offering university degrees in 2003.

Accreditation was granted for two years or a period of time ending on the graduation of the second class of students enrolled in the program, whichever is longer, but not to exceed three years.

Where accreditation was granted with conditions, the institution must provide additional information to the committee, including up-to-date course outlines, information about the faculty members teaching the program, and the availability of associate teachers to supervise the practicum.
