Raheel Raza appointed to Public Interest Committee
Education Minister Kathleen Wynne has appointed author and interfaith and
intercultural diversity consultant Raheel Raza to the College’s Public Interest
Committee. The committee advises Council regarding its duty to serve and protect
the public interest in carrying out the College’s objectives.
Raza, who is a public speaker, a documentary filmmaker, a freelance journalist
and a member of the communications team for the 2010 G8 Interfaith
Leaders’ Summit, graduated from Karachi University with majors in English and
psychology. After a career with Scandinavian Airlines, she moved to the United
Arab Emirates where she worked in the Office of the Ruler of Sharjah to develop
tourism to the Emirates.
Raza has travelled throughout the Middle East, Europe, the Far East and North
America, writing about and advocating for gender equality and women’s rights
internationally. She has appeared in print and on radio and television regarding
issues of media, diversity, gender and immigration and has presented to MPs
and international diplomats at the House of Commons in Ottawa.
Raza replaces Zubeda Vahed, who resigned from the committee when she accepted
a position in the Ministry of Education.
