AccreditationMore options for entering the professionThe College's Accreditation Committee has recently accredited 10 teacher education programs, including two brand new ones. Brock University's Faculty of Education will offer a part-time consecutive program in the Intermediate and Senior divisions, and the University of Windsor's Faculty of Education will offer a new program of technological studies. Windsor's two-year summer program, starting in summer 2006, will help meet the high demand for technology teachers by offering teacher training to professionals such as electricians and carpenters. The accreditation period for these new programs is two years or until the graduation of the second class of students enrolled in the program, whichever is longer. It cannot exceed three years. The committee also renewed the accreditation of the consecutive program of Trent University's School of Education and Professional Learning and the concurrent, consecutive, Native and technological education programs at Brock University for five years. The committee renewed the accreditation of three programs offered by OISE/UT: a consecutive program for elementary and secondary levels, including the Diploma in Technological Education and the Technological Studies Apprenticeship Program; the Master of Teaching; and the Master of Arts in Child Study and Education programs. The responsibility for accreditation of programs at faculties of education, which is vested in the College, gives teachers in Ontario a unique role in guiding their profession. AccreditationDid you go to Western? If you completed your teacher education at the University of Western Ontario's Faculty of Education, we'd like to hear your views on the quality of two programs we're currently reviewing for renewal of accreditation:
We're also interested in hearing from administrators who have Western grads on staff, current or former associate teachers in these programs, or other College members who have some connection with the faculty of education. The College's Accreditation Committee is reviewing these two programs in January 2006. We're interested in your insights and suggestions. We would welcome your written comments or you can present your views in person during our visit to the faculty. Please send – by December 23, 2005 – your written comments or request to make an oral submission to: Kevin Lowe |
