Council Meeting
Summary – September 2005
At its September 29th and 30th meetings, College Council:
-
at the Minister of Education's written request, approved in principle the proposal for a regulation change to extend the term of office of all elected Council members by six months (Members whose term would normally end in May will remain until November 9, 2006, or to the first regular Council meeting after the next election of Council at which there is a quorum, whichever is sooner.)*

also at the Minister's request, approved in principle the proposal for a regulation change to allow for a Council election before November 9, 2006, rather than the current April 2006*

approved the 2006 Ontario College of Teachers budget with operating revenues of $25,466,000, operating expenses of $27,125,000, capital and deferred charges of $986,000 with an annual membership fee that will remain at $104 and the shortfall to be drawn from the College's fee stabilization fund (See full budget story on this page.)

approved an adjustment to the College employee pensions and benefits package by one per cent to provide for a maximum of 22 per cent (employee plus employer contributions) of salaries

approved a Voluntary Privacy Code for the College, a copy of which is available on the College web site

decided to compensate roster members, members at large and institutional appointees retroactively for accreditation panel activity that took place between January 1 and March 31, 2005
-
directed the Registrar to report to Council as soon as possible with policies, plans and measurable outcomes for the active promotion of greater respect for the teaching profession

confirmed the appointments of Normand Fortin as Chair of the Finance Committee, Elizabeth Papadopoulos as Chair of the Investigation Committee and Gail Lilley as a member of the Executive Committee

approved full-time additions to staff for 2006 of a systems administrator, web developer, programmer analyst and an executive secretary to the French Language Services Co-ordinator.
*In a special meeting on October 20, 2005, Council approved the wording of the regulations that will extend the term of Council and delay the election by six months. |
